MetaHealth

Togetherness solutions for telemedicine that serve those who need them most

A first-of-it’s-kind telemedicine solution focused on family and mental health services, MetaHealth represents a people-first manifestation of The Internet of Life. Its real-time virtual environment is powered by The TMRW Foundation’s RealityOS.

What exactly is it?

The service goes bravely into challenging territory in order to provide innovative solutions to those who need it most, such as the disability community and others in at-risk situations with special vulnerabilities that make meeting virtually for mental-health-related purposes preferable to sharing traditional physical space. The service was developed on behalf of a longstanding public sector partner, and it allows patients to enter the virtual world to interface with family members, doctors, and counselors using any device equipped with a camera and a browser via a secure link.

The project represents the TMRW Foundation’s vision and mission to build the Internet of Life by serving the world’s mental health sector, bringing solutions to life for more empathy and togetherness in the Internet’s next wave.

Its first phase focuses on two branches of clinical care. The first serves children with mental and physical health conditions that can make it challenging to confront the anxieties and discomforts of traveling to often far-away physical locations for treatment, or might be unnerved or fearful of interactions with staff in uncomfortable environments such as hospitals. The gamified environments powered by RealityOS also provide powerful tools for professionals to interact with pediatric patients, using interactive games and assessment techniques such as puzzles and quizzes to aid their evaluations and care.

The second clinical branch offered by MetaHealth provides neutral, safe spaces for those who need joint mental-healthcare counseling but find themselves in at-risk relationships with others involved. Professionals worldwide are anticipating high potential for the metaverse to offer these types of spaces for all types of consultation — many of which previously led to routinely unsafe physical environments.

The services are also of key benefit to those in need of care but working semi-permanently from other countries or those forced to relocate due to circumstances beyond their control such as war, health crises, or natural disasters.

Cevat Yerli, founding CEO and Chairman of the TMRW Foundation, with his thoughts on the project:

MetaHealth offers safe, intimate digital spaces to those who need them the absolute most. The mission of our partner on the project aligns 1-to-1 with our vision and values, as we work together to democratize location, empower the public with freedom of choice and drive togetherness solutions for the next web.

ROOM

3D video conferencing designed with cinematic qualities for communication that feels natural

Imagine being able to meet with other people in a shared 3D digital space, interacting together with focus and immersion. Impossible? Or improbable? Say hello to ROOM, the real-world application of our Internet of Life initiative!

What exactly is it?

It’s the world’s first immersive, gamified 3D video conferencing tool, enabling users to engage with each other as if they were in the same physical space. Which makes it the next best thing to meeting in-person. It promotes well-being, enhancing our physical lives and social interactions. It’s a step towards creating a virtual world that is not only entertaining but also enriching, active and engaging.

Our physical world is not 2D, so we believe neither should be our daily communication. Mindful of this, the ROOM project is designed to encourage people to be more present in the moment when connecting with others virtually, as they would in real life. To achieve this, ROOM uses video cutouts of real people instead of avatars. This means that users are present in the metaverse as themselves, which not only solves privacy concerns but also enables users to communicate with facial expressions, gestures, and non-verbal cues. This allows for a more realistic and natural social interaction online.

The project currently enables users to join from a range of devices, connecting directly from a browser, making it more inclusive and accessible to a larger audience without requiring expensive VR hardware. It also employs second-person camera perspectives, where people see themselves contextualized in 3D space. Like dressing up for a movie premiere, we want people to feel they are somewhere that matters, an elegant space, a place where they can be the best version of themselves. To that end, the 3D spaces are professionally and thoughtfully designed with cinematic qualities, to give shared context to your meetings.

Granted, ROOM is still in its early stages. But within the industry, ROOM features the highest level of social presence. It has the potential to be a game-changer in the Internet Of Life. General Manager and CPO Stefanie Palomino says that it “brings people closer together, offering them new ways to express themselves more naturally and effectively while collaborating creatively in the virtual space.”

As technology continues to advance, we can expect to see more innovative projects like ROOM that aim to create a more immersive, meaningful, and responsible experience in the virtual world. With mindfulness as a core aspect of its design, ROOM is a step towards creating a more balanced and connected world, both offline and online.
